Veterans Day is always observed on November 11, regardless of what day of the week it falls on. The observance of Veterans Day preserves the historical significance: A celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Some things we can do on Veterans Day are:
Visit a retirement home. Many veterans in retirement homes would be happy if people took a moment to stop in and spend some time with them to personally thank them. Ask them about their service and genuinely listen to their stories. A 10 minute visit will shows veterans that we appreciate their service and help them enjoy a few moments of human contact and companionship.
A second suggestion of things to do on Veterans Day is to send a vet a letter. It's a powerful and permanent way to show a veteran that we honor his/her service.

In just a few days a veteran will receive the letter and know that someone out there remembers his or her service. The vet can hold onto that letter as a reminder.
Another way to spend Veterans Day could be to teach our children about the history of our nation and the sacrifices veterans have made, reminiscing over a cup of warm tea. Talk to children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews about what veterans have done to protect and defend our country. We should go visit them. Say thank you and give children the opportunity to say thank you as well. Many meaningful things we can do for a veteran won't cost a cent, but they will be priceless to the veterans who have served our nation.
