Father's Day is an occasion to mark and celebrate the contributions that fathers have made in our lives. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in the United States. Many events have inspired the idea of Father's Day. However, the woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was an influential figure in the establishment of Father's Day. Her father raised six children by himself after the death of their mother. This was uncommon at that time, as many widowers placed their children in the care of others.

Sonora felt that her father deserved recognition for what he had done. June of 1910 was the first time Father's Day was held. Although it was officially recognized as a holiday in 1972 by President Nixon.

I've been "liking" and "commenting" on pictures and status updates about dads, husbands, brothers and friends. Some dads in heaven, a few separated by distance, and others fortunate enough to be surrounded by family. Reading the qualities and special moments with their daddy, papa, baba, and pa makes me feel warm and fuzzy. A testament that fathers play a paramount role in our lives.

In the absence of the male figure, reading about moms playing both roles revealed circumstance.

A commonality in each scenario displayed unconditional love.

How ever Father's Day was spent in each family, may the feeling of endearment, tenderness, devotion, and passion for your notable person bring eternal happiness.
